Benefits of Indexing

One of the key drivers behind our decision to transition to a Gold Open Access model was to improve the visibility and impact of the journal. Improved indexing is a key component of this approach. Expected benefits for our authors include:

• Good index coverage makes the journal more discoverable
• Open access makes articles more likely to be read, shared, and cited
• Increasing readership and citations makes the journal more attractive to top researchers

The above benefits form a “virtuous cycle” where better visibility attracts more top-tier research articles which further enhances the JSS brand.

Additional indexing application are in process, but applications to some indexes may take several months to process. Stay tuned!

The International System Safety Society (ISSS) is excited to announce that after 57 years of print publication, Journal of System Safety (JSS) is now online and completely open access!

But don’t worry, for those who like to read real ink on real paper, the print edition is still available by subscription.

Why Open Access?

JSS is embracing a gold open access model with no reader fees and no author fees (sometimes called a diamond open access model). This offers advantages to:

Authors:

• Articles are more visible and accessible
• Articles are more likely to be cited
• Authors retain the right to share and repost their own work

Safety community:

• Makes cutting-edge system safety knowledge accessible to all
• Promotes discussion in the community on important topics
• Increases the visibility of ISSS and attracts new members

Indexing and Archives are Coming

One of our key goals for 2022 is to improve the indexing of the journal. In addition to increasing the visibility of our 57-year archives of the journal, we also want to make JSS a more attractive publisher for leading academic researchers.

While we work on indexing, we will be processing and loading back issues. Please checkout the JSS Archives, but please be patient as we slowly load all 57 years of back issues into the website.
